Van der Dijs was filed in jail by her lawyer Marije Vaders.
WILLEMSTAD – The former prime minister of Curaçao, Gerrit Schotte, is asking for sole custody of his children because their mother is serving her sentence at the “Sentro di Detenshon i Korekshon Kòrsou” (SDKK). She thinks it’s a trick to stay out of jail himself.
Cicely van der Dijs has to do nine months for her role in the “Babel” case, where she was found guilty of money laundering, among other things.
Schotte has already served his sentence for accepting political bribes in the same case, but could return to prison if he cannot cough up 1.8 million Netherlands Antillean guilders on the basis of a procedure of separate dispossession. The former leader of the “Movementu Futuro Kòrsou” (MFK) then risks three more years behind bars.
It’s a thorn in Van der Dijs’ side that his ex-partner is now taking advantage of the situation. She thinks he is only looking after his own interests and wants to avoid going back to prison.
Van der Dijs made several attempts to avoid serving his sentence through suspension and postponement requests as a single parent and employer of more than 200 workers. They were all denied by the court.
However, she will likely be released in February 2023 after serving two-thirds of her sentence with good behavior, as is customary.
