Sierra Pacific appoints first director of wildfires and fuels management – ​​Red Bluff Daily News


Sierra Pacific Industries has appointed Matt Pontes as its first director of wildfire and fuel management.

“We are thrilled to have Matt’s strategic leadership in this newly created position developed to protect our forest lands, our ecosystems and our rural communities,” said CEO Mark Emmerson. “Matt will guide our company’s work in wildfire suppression and resilience efforts, leveraging his experience in public and private organizations combined with his strong understanding of wildfire and natural resource management. As we strive to protect our lands and communities through stronger partnerships with adjacent landowners, rural communities, and state and federal agencies, we are thrilled to have Matt join our team and lead this important effort.

Pontes said he was happy to be part of the company.

“I am extremely grateful to have the opportunity to join the leadership team, the family culture and the team at SPI,” Pontes said. “This new role fits with my passion for wildfires, forestry and natural resources. Pontes brings over 30 years of experience in forest and wildfire management, fire response and recovery, and leading public agencies. He holds a bachelor’s degree in forestry and natural resource management from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
