The Mumbai Grahak Panchayat (MGP) has set up its own Conciliation and Mediation Center – SAMET (Amicable Resolution) which is available both offline and online.
“The Mumbai-based Consumers Association has partnered with Jupitice to launch the ADR Center for Fast, Affordable and Amicable Dispute Resolution which will be functional within the next 15 days to resolve the dispute online,” informed Adv. Shirish Deshpande, President of MGP.
Deshpande added that thousands of cases are pending in consumer courts in India and many of these cases take 20 to 25 years to settle. Through the Conciliation and Mediation Center, disputing parties can save time and money for settlement.
“Often complainants have a small dispute, but the cost and time involved is greater. Therefore, they do not approach. This also further encourages unfair business practices. This will stop with the conciliation forum in place,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Grahak Panchayat has partnered with Jupitice Justice Technologies for its technology support. Deshpande affirmed that in the next 15 days the online platform will also be available and it will be available for those who wish to go to conciliation through online means.
The conciliation period will be 60 to 90 days including two to three hearings. When asked if the conciliation forum is on the model of MahaRERA, he replied: “At MahaRERA, conciliation is only limited to settling disputes between buyer and seller related to housing, but here the complaint can be any .”
Raman Aggarwal, Founder and CEO of Jupitice Justice Technologies said:
“The entire Jupitice team is delighted to extend its technology support to Mumbai Grahak Panchayat (MGP) for its proprietary ADR platform.
